I don’t know which is worst, our spending on libraries our that the budget director thinks his statement means something positive.

MySA.com: Metro | State:

Budget Director Peter Zanoni said although cities like Austin spend more money per person in their library budgets, they aren’t building new library branches like San Antonio.

And this means what? We’re supposed to feel better that we’re building libraries and others aren’t because? Maybe they already have enough libraries to ensure reasonable access for thier citizens. Maybe we’re just playing catch-up. Maybe we’ll have nice new libraries without much content.

And once again the Express-News has done an amazing job of supplementing the story with it’s own research on library spending. For all we know, John Nicolas could be getting his numbers from the same place we got our information on Sadam’s weapons of mass destruction. How hard can it be to ask for the source of the numbers and look up the information themselves?
