Furthermore, having studied briefly the history of Black English during the 70&#039;s, it is a DIALECT, NOT a language.  In the Middle Eastern country where I live, there are many dialects of Arabic which are not separate WRITTEN languages--they are only spoken varieties.  Here, linguists refer to all of those as DIALECTS, and the standard written version as a LANGUAGE.

You find the same situation in most European countries.  In Germany, for example, standard German is taught in schools, whereas there are many varieties of spoken dialects.  Probably the same thing for Spain, France, Italy, Greece, etc.
