At my school everyone that comes in must have their ID scanned in the front office. If they have a history of violent/sexual crimes, they can’t get beyond the front office. If they don’t have legitimate business they can’t get beyond the front office. The scanner prints out a pass saying their destination, business (Picking up Janie), and has their photo on it.
There is an “air lock” at the front door. A double set of doors. Between 7:30 and 2:30 the inside doors are firedoor locked (can get out not in) forcing everyone entering the building to come into the office. Before 7:30 and at dismissal several staff members stand near the 2nd set of doors. Children are allowed in, but parents must go get a pass. Frequent flyiers, who eat breakfast or lunch at school with their children, or volunteer have laminated passes that are kept in the office.
All other doors at the school are kept locked (firedoor locked).
Great security – Except going from the play ground to the main building is a huge open walk way with no gate/door it leads into our buttfly garden/courtyard. The pod doors are considered interior doors and we can’t lock them during the day.
My co-worker has already been visited by strange people in the evening when she was working late. She is new, I told her to let our principal know.
